Recently we wrote about how bad weather can be rough on the office. The timing was perfect, because Portland, Oregon was just hit with several inches of snow, with more likely to come over the next few days.

Sadly, it seems as if business completely shuts down in the area because residents of the Pacific Northwest are seemingly incapable of driving in the snow—yours truly included!

An office shutdown due to snow doesn’t have to be a bad thing, however. You can easily use the downtime for organization, catching up on old projects and winter cleaning in the office. Think of it this way, with a lack of employees and customer foot traffic, it allows you to clean all areas a little bit easier than if people were moving about in the office.

Not to be completely bossy, but here’s what you should do immediately if you have the time:

  • Vacuum all carpets
  • Shampoo the carpets (especially if you have a few days where nobody will be walking about in the office)
  • Wax the tile floors
  • Give the restrooms a deep-clean
